Respiratory Conditions Physiotherapy

At Mark Kincaid Physiotherapy, certain conditions such as sinusitis and a productive cough as a result of bronchitis can be treated.

In the case of sinusitis, blocked sinuses can lead to a post-nasal drip and headaches. Treatment is aimed at decongestion of the sinuses. This is done by mobilising the upper neck and the bones over the sinus cavities, soft tissue release over the sinuses as well as dry needling. Dry needling over the sinuses can work very well to stimulate blood flow to the sinuses, thus aiding decongestion.

Bronchitis can lead to the development of a productive cough. An excess of phlegm can lead to blockages of the smaller airways. This may lead to shortness of breath because air breathed in wouldn’t be able to get the base of the lungs where it is needed to get absorbed into the blood stream. If phlegm is very sticky, chest physiotherapy can help with getting rid of the phlegm with various techniques. It is important to get rid of this phlegm, because if it is not cleared, it can lead to infection. These techniques include: manual chest techniques such as percussions, nebulisation and deep breathing exercises
